Utilities are finding that they do not have sufficient budget allocation to upgrade the generation, transmission and distribution infrastructure to accommodate the growth in load that only manifests itself as a major problem for brief intervals in the year. Energy storage helps solve this problem by taking off-peak power (when
demand is lower) and regenerating that power at peak times. Utilities
can in effect bypass system constraints and allocate funds in planned
processes to upgrade the system. Energy storage can work to improve
power quality in areas that are prone to power quality and brown-out
problems. By acting to improve the quality and availability of power,
utilities can provide a better service to their customers and avoid
penalties. |
